I strongly suggest that you read to your child daily. The more you read to them, the more interested they will be in learning to read! Let them catch you reading. Put down your phone and read a book.
Practice saying the alphabet, not just singing it. Look for letters everywhere! practice writing your name. We start the year off with upper case only but in January we transition to lower case letters!
There is a list of forty sight words your child will need to memorize this year in order to read books at the expected level by May.
